It is an intimate and idyllic alternative to the larger hunting lodges and outfitters in Santa Fe and Cordoba. The hunting itself is what first drew us to El Raigon, and all four feathers were nothing short of spectacular. Most people come to Argentina for high-volume dove shooting, and El Raigon’s holds up to any lodge I’ve visited previously. My son and I were each able to enjoy those oft-desired 200+ dove afternoons, but it was the pigeon shooting that we most fell in love with. The opportunity to shoot all four feathers over 3-4 days kept us fresh, excited, and without boredom. Agustin, our guide, had such excitement and passion for hunting that was a pervading force the entire trip. He, Colo, and Ramiro take great pride in their ability to scout for birds, and they consistently put us in the best position to do our best shooting. Their positivity, humor, and kindness each day were greatly appreciated. As well, our bird boys José and Sergio were consummate professionals who never took a moment off from their jobs; my son and I had such a good time with them that we exchanged hugs upon our departure. The lodge is a breathtaking red estancia with such personal details that make you forget you’re on a commercial hunting trip. Comfortable, homey furniture, a warm, roaring fireplace, and generous hors d’oeuvres greet you each time you return for the night. Ana, the host, was incredibly warm, kind, and accommodating, and she constantly went out of her way to make us feel at home. As well, the girls Karina, Nataly, Mira, and Poppy wore constant smiles as they kept our rooms clean, our laundry washed, and our cups and hearts full. Tunchi made sure there was fire in the fireplace at all hours during the cold winter months we visited. The beds were extremely comfortable and gave us a great night’s sleep before early morning perdiz and duck shoots. Every lunch and dinner is three courses — an appetizer (the size of an entree), an entree, and a dessert — prepared by Chef Leo, and all of the ~24 plates we had over four days were memorable and delicious. Leo could open a restaurant in Buenos Aires if he wanted to, and it would only be a matter of time before it earned a Michelin star. He is that talented at cooking. If you didn’t shoot a single bird, the food would still render the entire trip worth it. As a whole, this was a full-service, five star experience for my son and I. We made memories for a lifetime, and it is only a matter of time before we return. I suggest you run, not walk, to book here if you have the privilege to do so.
